Approach to the project

Ten years after the inauguration of the Museo del Novecento, the Municipality of Milan has launched "Novecentopiùcento", an international design competition to expand the museum, currently located in the eastern Arengario tower and adjacent buildings, it will integrate the western Arengario tower. Competitors are asked to design an air connection between them two buildings. The proposed concept is to literally support the idea of a living museum, connecting the two Arengario towers through two cable car systems. The moving globes, a horizontal transport and observation structure, will become a tourist attraction, which will promote and improve museum visits, while giving Milan a new perspective for the city center. The unusual solution will strengthen the image of the Museo del Novecento as an active cultural space and symbol of modernity and change, the symbol of a city that never sleeps and that recognizes innovation as central and also offers much space for contemporary art and culture. The proposed mobile structure will preserve the urban context, will not obstruct the view of the Martini Tower in Piazza Diaz or the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II arch opposite, while becoming an important attraction in the Duomo Square.
